Subic makes more sense once you know where the hand-offs happen.
The Freeport is reached by road. Public buses arrive in Olongapo, just outside the Main Gate; the last part of the trip is a walk, a Freeport taxi or van, or a pickup arranged by your hotel. Inside, the waterfront is easy on foot. The hills, theme parks, and forest are not.

From Manila
Bus to Olongapo, then transfer
From NAIA, first travel to a Manila bus terminal. Victory Liner, Genesis, and Saulog operate services toward Olongapo; there is no direct public bus from the airport into the Freeport.

From Clark
A shorter road connection
Coaches connect Clark Airport and Olongapo, with the road journey usually taking about an hour and a half. A pre-arranged car or hotel transfer is the simpler door-to-door option, especially after dark or with luggage.

The part most guides skip
From Olongapo into the Freeport
Intercity buses stop outside SBFZ. From the terminal, choose the hand-off that suits your luggage, arrival time, and hotel district.
- Walk through the Main Gate
- Best for light luggage and a stay in the central waterfront area.
- Take a Freeport taxi or van
- Best for a direct trip. Confirm the destination and fare before setting off.
- Arrange a hotel pickup
- The least uncertain option for late arrivals, families, and hotels beyond the CBD.
Jeepneys and tricycles stop outside.
They operate around Olongapo but do not continue inside the Freeport. Do not plan the last kilometre as if it were an ordinary city transfer.

The rule visitors remember too late
Full stop at intersections.
SBFZ follows a first-to-stop, first-to-go convention. Come to a complete stop, notice which vehicle arrived first, then take your turn. The rule is actively enforced.

Questions to settle before you go
Can I fly directly to Subic?
Not on a scheduled commercial passenger flight. Use Clark or Manila airport, then continue by road.
Can I get around SBFZ without a car?
Yes, if your stay is centred on the CBD and waterfront. For Cubi, theme parks, hills, and forest attractions, arrange a taxi, van, hotel pickup, or current internal bus.
Where should I stay for the easiest first visit?
The central waterfront and CBD place restaurants, shops, and the Main Gate within the simplest walking radius. Choose the hills or forest edge for quiet, but plan transport.
Should I book the final transfer in advance?
Do so for a late arrival, a family group, heavy luggage, or a hotel beyond the central waterfront. Otherwise, confirm the current local option with your hotel on arrival day.
Before you leave
Check your operator’s current departure, save your hotel’s exact address, and ask the hotel which Freeport transfer they recommend. Those three details remove most of the friction from the trip.
