A slow morning in Subic

No itinerary before ten. Just the bay waking up, something warm to drink, and a walk that goes wherever it goes.

These are suggested places from the guide, grouped into a starting route. Adjust the order, travel time and bookings to suit your day. Check current opening hours before setting out.

Day 1

  1. Tanawan sa Subic Bay

A marked viewpoint over Subic Bay on the road between the CBD and Cubi. Tanawan is Filipino for a place you look out from, and that is the whole of it: no facilities, no gate, no staff.

  2. 727 Coffee & Co.

A coffee shop in Building 727 on Manila Avenue, which is where the name comes from. It opens at seven every morning and runs to eleven at night, later still from Friday through Sunday.

  3. Morong Park

An ecological park on the Bataan side of the Freeport, well south of the CBD. It sits on the stretch of the zone where the named districts run out, and is marked only by its plus code.

  4. Buddha's Bowl

Casual Southeast Asian restaurant in the CBD near Harbor Point, recently relocated to a spot with more parking, serving laksa, pad thai, and Thai-style rice bowls from about PHP 89.

  5. Sun Plaza Subic Hotel

An aparthotel in the Moonbay Marina Complex on Waterfront Road, SBFZ, with kitchenette-and-veranda suites for stays from a few days to several months.
