Remote-work guide

A week of working from the bay

Wide streets, a walkable centre and apartments with kitchens. Subic suits a week of work better than its resort reputation suggests.

A woman at a wooden table under a thatched roof, a cup of coffee in front of her, looking across calm water to a forested hill.

Overview

The shape of this guide

Subic Bay Freeport Zone was built as a naval base, and a base is a place designed for people who live and work there. The streets are wide and quiet, the Central Business District is walkable, and a number of apartments come with a kitchen or kitchenette.

It is not a co-working hub. Nothing here is built around the laptop, and connection speeds are not published for any of the places listed below, so test the line on your first morning before you commit to a month. What the bay offers is a calmer place to be productive: a café that opens at seven, a gym on the way home, and a Saturday that does not need planning.

What follows is a week, roughly in order. Somewhere to stay, somewhere to work, somewhere to eat lunch, somewhere to move, somewhere to go on Saturday, and somewhere to go if something goes wrong.

Section 01

A desk that is yours for the week

These stays are tagged for remote work: a workspace in the room, a kitchen, or a rental model that suits a week or a month. Ask each operator for a monthly rate.

Section 02

Somewhere with a kitchen

After a few days, eating every meal out gets old. Apartments and villas with a kitchen or kitchenette make a longer stay feel like living rather than visiting.

Section 04

Lunch that is not at your desk

Quick counters and delis, for the days when lunch is twenty minutes between calls.

Section 05

Move before you sit

Section 06

Saturday, somewhere else

The forest, the shoreline and the viewpoints are what the week is for. Some trails are guided only, and some beaches charge for day entry, so check before you set out.

Section 07

If something goes wrong

On a long stay it is worth knowing where the hospital, the clinics and a pharmacy are before you need them. Check hours and services directly.

Before you go

Keep the plan loose

This is a useful shape for the day, not a race through a list. Opening hours, weather, and availability can move things around. Check the place page before leaving and let one or two stops fall away if the day feels better without them.

Questions

Where can I work from a café in Subic Bay?

727 Coffee & Co. on Manila Avenue in the CBD is tagged for remote work and opens at seven in the morning, running to eleven at night and later at weekends. BRU Café, on Palm Street at the Argonaut Highway corner, is one of the few places at the Gateway end to work after dark. The Starbucks on Rizal Highway has quieter upstairs seating meant for work and study. None of the listings publishes Wi-Fi speeds, so test the connection before settling in.

Can I rent an apartment in Subic Bay by the month?

Yes. Forest View Leisure Residences in Binictican rents three-bedroom apartments by the night or the month, and Sun Plaza Subic Hotel sells stays from a few days to several months. Subic Executive Lofts and Poco-a-Poco Condominium are condominiums where individual owners list units, some with a workspace. Rates are set by each operator or owner, so ask for a monthly quote.

Is the internet reliable in Subic Bay?

We have not tested it, and no listing publishes a speed. A July 2026 travel source describes mobile signal as reliable across the Freeport, and SBMA’s own emergency-number instructions imply that Smart and Globe both work inside it, but coverage by Globe, Smart and DITO has not been confirmed. eSIMs and pocket Wi-Fi are sold at Manila and Clark airports, and testing your connection on the first morning is cheap insurance.

Where can I exercise in Subic Bay?

Subic Bay Gymnasium on Aguinaldo Street is a public facility, but hours and rates are not published, so call the Subic Bay Sports Complex, which handles its bookings. Tessavi Pilates Studio on Rizal Highway runs reformer classes from 8am to 7pm daily and takes bookings online. Subic Bay Run Club organises through a WhatsApp group rather than a fixed meeting point.

Is Subic Bay safe for someone working remotely?

Subic Bay Freeport has a strong reputation for safety, backed by a structure you can see. SBMA runs its own Law Enforcement Department, with detachments at Binictican, Cubi and Kalayaan and a Port Sentinel Branch at the gates. We could not find official crime statistics, so we describe the enforcement rather than quote a rate.

What is the weather like for a long stay in Subic Bay?

The dry season runs November to April and the wet season May to October. Mean monthly temperature stays between 26.9 °C in January and 29.8 °C in April, but humidity climbs from 65 to 67 percent in the dry months to 82 to 83 percent from July to September. December to April is the comfortable stretch, and the wet season brings afternoon rain.

Where is the nearest hospital in Subic Bay?

ACE Medical Center Baypointe stands on Dewey Avenue in the CBD, and traded until recently as UniHealth Baypointe Hospital and Medical Clinic, so both names still circulate. It is listed as open around the clock, though its services are not published, so call ahead for anything specific. SBMA also runs its own Public Health and Safety Department.
