USS New York (ACR-2)

1890s US armored cruiser, later USS Saratoga and USS Rochester, scuttled by US forces in December 1941 to keep her four 8-inch guns from Japanese hands. Wreck lies roughly 16-32m deep; suited to advanced or technical divers.

Built in 1891 as flagship of the US Asiatic Fleet and Pacific Squadron, the USS New York was renamed Saratoga and then Rochester before the Navy scuttled her at Subic Bay in December 1941 to deny her four 8-inch guns to the Japanese. The 110-metre wreck rests on its port side, largely intact, and divers can swim past the deck guns and a large propeller. Depth estimates vary by source, from about 16 to 32 metres, putting it within range of advanced open-water and technical divers.
