"The Hands that Freed the Nation" monument

Free monument on Waterfront Road, open 24 hours, commemorating the 12 Philippine senators whose 1991 vote against renewing the US bases treaty led to the 1992 handover and the creation of SBFZ.

The monument commemorates what Philippine guides call the "Magnificent 12": the senators who voted in 1991 against a renewed treaty for the US military bases, described locally as senators who "stood up and said no to the military bases." That vote set in motion the 1992 base handover and the creation of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. It stands on Waterfront Road, free and open around the clock.
