Naval Air Station Cubi Point (former)
Culture
Building an air station out of the Zambales jungle meant relocating the fishing village of Banicain and moving enough earth to level a mountain into the bay, a five-year, roughly 20-million-man-hour project the Seabees finished in 1956. Cubi Point served as the Seventh Fleet's main aircraft repair hub through the Vietnam War and later supported Desert Storm. Its famous Officers' Club was dismantled before the 1992 handover and rebuilt at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida, as the "Cubi Bar Cafe."
