Where to stay in Subic, by district

Most hotels in Subic cluster in the Central Business District and along Waterfront Road. The beach resorts, the forest stays and the hotels nearest Zoobic Safari are on the other side of the bay.

Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ), which most people call SBMA after the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority that runs it, is spread around a bay, and where you sleep decides how much of your trip is spent in a car. The Freeport is a zone of defined districts, not a single resort strip.

This article sorts the hotels, resorts and rentals we list by district and by what they suit: a walkable base, a beach day, a night near the animal parks, a meeting with a function room, or a month-long stay. We do not quote room rates. Prices change by season and by booking site, so check the property before you decide.

Which area of Subic Bay should you stay in?

The Central Business District (CBD) is the answer for most visitors. SBMA describes it as a predominantly commercial district with a large number of shops and restaurants, and in practice it holds most of the Freeport’s hotels, restaurants, cafés and duty-free shopping within walking distance of the bayside promenade.

Beach resorts and forest stays sit in other districts. Ilanin Forest West is a conservation zone that allows recreation only at developed nodes, which is where the beach resorts, Ocean Adventure and Zoobic Safari sit. Cubi is the old Naval Air Station area, with beach resorts along San Bernardino Road. Binictican and Kalayaan are residential districts in the hills, better for a long stay than a weekend. The districts explained covers each one in more depth.

What are the hotels on Waterfront Road like?

Waterfront Road is the CBD’s bayside strip and the natural choice if you want the water, the restaurants and the nightlife without a car. The hotels along it range from a two-star budget stay to boutique hotels with pools, and several sit around Moonbay Marina.

  • The Reef Hotel and Residences is a 32-room boutique hotel near the baywalk with terrace rooms facing the park or ocean.
  • Subic Park Hotel is a waterfront boutique hotel at Moonbay Marina with an outdoor pool and a restaurant overlooking the bay.
  • The Lighthouse Marina Resort is a 34-room boutique hotel topped by a lighthouse tower, with a pool and a bar, at the Moonbay Marina complex.
  • Vista Marina Hotel and Resort is a 46-room beachfront hotel with a Mediterranean look, with a pool and an on-site restaurant and bar.
  • Terrace Hotel Subic Bay sits across the boardwalk from the bay and has a rooftop pool.
  • Hotel Bahia has 20 rooms around a courtyard garden and a short walk to Boardwalk beach. It has no pool.
  • Segara Villas is a set of ten Balinese-inspired villas with a pool, set apart from the busier part of the strip.

Several more hotels along the strip are aimed at business and group travellers, including Subic Grand Harbour Hotel, Bayfront Hotel Subic Bay, Seorabeol Grand Leisure Hotel and Subic Bay View Diamond Hotel. Seorabeol is described as popular with Korean and other Asian guests. Reviews of Subic Bay View Diamond mention an ageing building, so read recent reviews.

On a tighter budget, Herbies Mansion is a small two-star hotel on Waterfront Road, and Subic Bay Hostel and Dormitory offers bunk rooms with lockers and 24-hour security.

Which are the business hotels in Subic Bay?

The business hotels cluster in the inland part of the CBD around Canal Road, Dewey Avenue and Rizal Highway, a short way back from the waterfront rather than on it. Most have restaurants on site, and several have meeting space.

  • Ibis Styles Subic, an Accor brand hotel on the Rizal side of the CBD, with a pool and pets allowed.
  • Best Western Plus Hotel Subic on Dewey Avenue, with a bay-view pool, a restaurant and a spa.
  • The Aurora Subic Hotel, a 101-room boutique business hotel with a rooftop infinity pool.
  • Le Charme Suites on Palm Street, with a rooftop pool, a spa, a gym and two restaurants.
  • Court Meridian Hotel & Suites, 67 rooms near the baywalk, marketed for staycations and workations, with a pool.
  • Horizon Hotel Subic, a Korean-owned hotel on Canal Road with a 24-hour restaurant, and Interpark Hotel, with a Korean restaurant on site.
  • Mansion Garden Hotel, a full-service hotel with a pool, spa, gym and sports bar.
  • Subic International Hotel, a 209-room, three-star hotel at Rizal and Sta. Rita Roads, and Subic Bay Travelers Hotel & Event Center, close to the main gate.

Two other hotels worth knowing about: Grand Hoyah Hotel is a 40-room boutique hotel near Harbor Point and Royal Duty Free (for the mall’s kitchens, see restaurants at Harbor Point), and Subic Bay Venezia Hotel has a PAGCOR casino in the same building. Classe Inn, a Japanese-inspired hotel on Canal Road, was listed as accepting guests during a preview-opening period, so check its current status.

Which hotels in Subic have function rooms?

Several CBD and Rizal Avenue hotels advertise function halls, ballrooms or event rooms, which makes them the usual choice for company meetings, weddings and family gatherings. Capacities and rates vary by event, so ask the hotel directly for its current room list.

  • Subic Bay Travelers Hotel & Event Center is built around pillarless function rooms and a bistro, near the main gate.
  • Subic Grand Harbour Hotel lists function rooms on Waterfront Road.
  • Court Meridian Hotel & Suites has a function hall and a children’s playhouse on site.
  • Seorabeol Grand Leisure Hotel offers conference and ballroom space near SBMA Beach and Boardwalk Park.
  • Interpark Hotel has an event hall for 50 to 200 guests, according to its listing.
  • Mansion Garden Hotel runs banquet and wedding facilities with halal-friendly dining.
  • Subic Bay Peninsular Hotel has function halls, along with a pool and a kids’ pool.

Outside the CBD, Camayan Beach Resort and Hotel hosts meetings, team-building and weddings on its own site, and Acea Subic Beach Resort books out for weddings and corporate events.

Which hotels are near Zoobic Safari?

Zoobic Glampz is the only stay we list inside Zoobic Safari itself. It is a glamping property run by the same operator as Zoobic Safari, in Ilanin Forest West, and booking listings describe air-conditioned family rooms rather than tents.

The next closest stays we list are on the same forest-and-beach side of the bay. Measured in a straight line between map coordinates we have confirmed, Camayan Beach Resort and Hotel is roughly 2 km from Zoobic Safari, and Vine and Canopy in Triboa and Edgewater in Cubi are about 4 km away. Kamana Sanctuary Resort & Spa is also in Ilanin Forest West, but its map position in our records is approximate, so we give no figure for it. These are straight-line distances, not drive times, so check the route before you book.

  • Camayan Beach Resort and Hotel has 82 rooms and 3 suites on Camayan Beach and is run by the company that operates Ocean Adventure next door. Its own site says hotel guests receive discounts on the neighbouring attractions.
  • Kamana Sanctuary Resort & Spa is an eco-focused beach resort on Nabasan Bay, between old-growth rainforest and the water. Only overnight guests are admitted, so it is not a day-trip option.
  • Acea Subic Beach Resort is a 2.5-hectare beachfront resort on San Bernardino Road, on the Cubi side, with an infinity pool and over 100 rooms.
  • Edgewater is a 20-room, pet-friendly boutique resort in the Cubi area.

The CBD hotels are roughly 7 to 9 km from Zoobic Safari in a straight line, and the Freeport’s districts are far enough apart that the drive matters. If your trip is built around Zoobic Safari and Ocean Adventure, sleeping on the forest side saves a daily drive. If you want restaurants and bars in the evening, the CBD is a short drive away.

Where can you stay on the beach in Subic Bay?

The Freeport’s beach resorts are in Cubi and on the forest side of the bay in Ilanin Forest West, not in the CBD. A handful of Waterfront Road hotels, such as Vista Marina and Terrace Hotel, face the bay but are in the harbour-front strip rather than on a resort beach.

  • Camayan Beach Resort and Hotel, Ilanin Forest West: a forest-backed beachfront resort with a sea turtle conservation programme. Subic’s beaches covers day use and swimming.
  • Kamana Sanctuary Resort & Spa, Ilanin Forest West: an eco-focused resort for overnight guests only.
  • Acea Subic Beach Resort, Cubi: a private beachfront resort with a gym and a playground.
  • All Hands Beach, Cubi: a public beach with a day-use pass and overnight cabanas that include breakfast. It operated as a US Navy swimming site from around 1956.

Day-use fees and passes change, so we do not list prices. Ask each resort what it currently charges non-guests.

Where should you stay for a longer visit?

For a week or more, an apartment hotel or villa with a kitchen is usually easier than a hotel room, and the Freeport has plenty. SBMA describes Binictican Heights as former US officers’ housing with a golf course, a retirement village and an international school, which is where the long-stay, residential character of the zone lives.

  • Sun Plaza Subic Hotel, an apartment hotel at Moonbay Marina with kitchenette suites for stays from a few days to several months.
  • Chequers Suites (Subic Bay), apartment-style rooms with full kitchens and a pool, about 400 metres from Harbor Point according to its listing.
  • Subic Executive Lofts and Poco-a-Poco Condominium, condominium units that owners let for short stays.
  • Forest View Leisure Residences in Binictican, three-bedroom apartments for short stays or monthly rental, with a pool and a tennis court.
  • Subic Holiday Villas in Kalayaan, a condotel complex with kitchenette suites. Recent reviews flag pool upkeep.
  • Vine and Canopy in Triboa Bay, a self-check-in compound of studios and houses overlooking the bay.
  • Trillo Bay Villas and The Nest by the Sea, self-catering villa and apartment units in the Cubi area.
  • Mountain Woods Inn, a 24-room hillside inn in West Kalayaan with a pool and a kids’ pool.

How do you choose between districts?

Pick the district for the thing you will do most, and use the map to see where each stay sits. If it is eating, drinking, shopping and the waterfront, stay in the CBD; if it is a beach, a marine park or the animals, stay on the forest and Cubi side; if you are working remotely or settling in, look at the residential districts.

  • Arriving without a car: stay in the CBD or on Waterfront Road, where restaurants and the promenade are on foot.
  • Travelling with children: a pool and a family room matter more than the address. Court Meridian has a children’s playhouse on site, Camayan sits next to Ocean Adventure, and Zoobic Glampz is inside Zoobic Safari.
  • Bringing a pet: Ibis Styles Subic and Edgewater are both listed as pet-friendly. Confirm the policy, size limits and any fee with the property.
  • Working remotely: look for Wi-Fi and a workspace, which several apartment hotels list, and see the working from the bay guide.
